Buddy Valastro Opens Up About Losing His Mother Mary to ALS

After losing his mom to ALS scarcely a month ago, Buddy Valastro is doing accurately what Mary would have wanted for him now: returning to work.

“She doesn’t wish me to stop,” he tells PEOPLE exclusively, sitting in his bureau filled with photos of his dear mother. “She wants me to be a primogenitor of a family and keep doing what I’m doing, 100 percent. There’s not even a doubt in my mind.” Easing behind into his responsibilities during their ever-expanding Carlo’s Bakery has been healthy for a Cake Boss star, though there is one New Jersey plcae of a family business that’s been giving him pause.

“I haven’t been behind to Hoboken given she died and we know that when we go there, I’ll really mangle down,” he says of a strange bakery that Mary helped run. “That place has got so most story and that was my mom’s spot, that was her store.”

Mary was initial diagnosed with the degenerative commotion mostly famous as Lou Gehrig’s disease, that essentially affects a nerves and spinal cord, in 2011. In a past year, Buddy says, she mislaid roughly all of her engine skills, relying on a wheelchair and a disabled outpost to continue her visits to a bakery. On Jun 22 she died during age 69 of complications from pneumonia, one of a heading causes of genocide in ALS patients, surrounded by Buddy and his 4 sisters.

Though examination his mom onslaught had been abrasive for a chef, he’s anticipating some service now. “As most as we skip her, I’m blissful she didn’t have to humour with feeding tubes, not meaningful anyone and a unpleasant death,” he says. “I know she’s in a improved place.”

Buddy says he motionless to pronounce out about her life and bequest since of how dedicated her fans have been. A few days after Mary died, there were dozens of flowers and mass cards left in front of a bakery. “Everyone was so supportive,” he says. “There were so many people who prayed for her, desired her and that’s because I’m doing this. we wish people to know what happened and we wish to appreciate them for always being understanding of her.”
