Cook-off Raises ALS Awareness

The second Tijerina Barbecue Cook-off happened recently only north of Edinburg.
Organizers pronounced there is a special reason for a event.
“We started doing a ALS Foundation for my dad. His name was Ramiro Tijerina. My father fought ALS for 5 years. We mislaid him in 2012 to it,” Marissa Tijerina said.
Remembering a desired one is not always easy, though a family banded together to lift recognition about a illness and income for a foundation.
“It’s for a Lou Gehrig’s Foundation. My son suffered a disease,” pronounced Maria Cristina Tijerina, Ramiro Tijerina’s mother.
Amyotrophic parallel sclerosis (ALS), also famous as Lou Gehrig’s disease, attacks haughtiness cells. The physique eventually shuts down. There is no diagnosis or cure.
“My father enjoyed a cook-offs. He enjoyed cooking, enjoyed creation a vessel de campo, chili, beans. He flattering most did everything,” Marissa Tijerina said.
“We all come together to support this cause. (We) come out and lift supports for it and try to find a heal for it,” pronounced Monte Awbrey, a Tijerina family friend.
Participants also contest for prizes.
“We have unequivocally good food. We only wish to share it with other people and get it out there,” Servando Gutierrez said.
“I’ve been cooking vessel de campo for 27 years,” Arnold Tijerina said.
“This is family associated also. We get together, we contest … see if we win anything,” Bert Tijerina said.
“This is a second year for a cook-off. We also do a travel as good for a ALS Foundation,” Marissa Tijerina said.
