“Ellen Show” Features Local Firefighter Battling ALS

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Firefighters from a North Side were on a Ellen uncover Friday.
Pittsburgh firefighters from a Deutschtown Fire Station, including Matt Onyshko, seemed on a comedian’s show.
Onyshko, who has been a City of Pittsburgh firefighter for 8 years, is battling ALS.
After being diagnosed with ALS, associate firefighters stepped up, covering Onyshko’s shifts so he could continue to accept a paycheck.
Onyshko’s family common their romantic story on a uncover Friday.
“What Matt’s doing today, what Matt did yesterday, what Matt’s going to do tomorrow — that’s a favorite memory right there. It’s heroic, and he’s an inspiration,” pronounced a teary-eyed Capt. Ron Bartolowits.
And in standard Ellen fashion, a show’s horde didn’t let a firefighters and a family leave dull handed.
For a firehouse, Ellen sent a framed span of her signature “Ellen Show” boxers.
The Onyshko family also got a check for $50,000.
Dozens of firefighters also collected during a firehouse to contend hello to a Onyshko family from Pittsburgh.
Back in August, Onyshko and other firefighters also took partial in a ALS bucket plea to lift recognition for ALS.
