N.J. male battling ALS fighting to compensate for care

A special appurtenance keeps 66-year-old Joe Swider alive.
Swider of Atco, New Jersey, has ALS, a on-going illness that affects a shaken system.
He tells Action News he has a lot to live for.
“We have dual boys, dual girls, 11 grandkids in what, 12 years,” pronounced Swider.
He is inept from a neck down and needs a ventilator.
A home helper cares for Swider for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The caring costs some-more than $4,000 a week, and it used to be paid by Swider’s word by a internal plumber’s union.
“They call it 100 percent retirement medical. And what that means is, you’re guaranteed your medical coverage for a rest of your life,” pronounced Swider.
But final year, a kinship altered word plans.
The Swider’s got a notice saying their coverage wouldn’t change. Still, Joe’s wife, Donna, done a phone call and attended an info event about a new plan.
“She said, ‘I’m only verifying that we still have a same nursing coverage.’ And he said, ‘No, there is no nursing coverage,’ ” pronounced Joe Swider.
“It was a bombshell, we was not awaiting that during all. Not after creation those initial phone calls,” pronounced Donna Swider.
The Swider’s took their box all a approach to sovereign court.
Donna Swider says while a decider was sympathetic, he pronounced no laws were broken.

Meanwhile, a Swider’s are now profitable for nursing caring out of pocket.
Donations from a GoFundMe page are helping, though once a income runs out, Joe Swider says he’ll go into hospice, and let inlet take a course.
“Our story’s not over yet, though this is out of a hands and we don’t know how it’s going to end,” pronounced Donna Swider.
The GoFundMe page has lifted some-more than $40,000 in a month, and Donna says many of a donations have come from finish strangers.
