STEM Challenge during Northport HS Raises $10K for ALS Research

The second annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Challenge during Northport High School on Saturday was a outrageous success and lifted approximatley $10,000 for ALS research.
The STEM Challenge, hosted by A Midwinter Night’s Dream Inc. (AMND) as partial of a Team Packard initiative, was a one day, 4-hour group eventuality that had students in grades 4-8 participating and
competing in hands-on science, technology, engineering and arithmetic tasks.
There were 22 teams (90 students)
registered for a eventuality representing a Northport-East Northport, Kings Park, West Babylon, and Hauppauge school
districts, as good as The Long Island School for a Gifted. More than 30 Northport High School students and alumni
were on palm to assistance run a eventuality as partial of a Team Packard and AMND extracurricular clubs.
Awards were given out
to a tip 4 teams in any of a challenges: Speed of a Bubble, Circuits in a Snap, Balloon Powered Vehicle, and
Puzzling Problems. Additionally, a tip fundraising endowment was given out to a group “Hauppauge Einsteins” for lifting the
most income for ALS Research – $1,550!
In total, a STEM Challenge lifted $10,000 and all supports will be destined to
the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research during Johns Hopkins University.
For impulse and approval of scholarship and technology, Northport High School’s First Robotics Team 5099, the
Cyberian Tigers, welcomed a STEM Challenge participants with a proof from their drudge Kujo. Team 5099
and Kujo recently competed in a First Stronghold during Hofstra University achieving 3rd place. In further to a robotics
demonstration, Northport’s Information, Technology and Resource Teachers introduced coding stations to relatives and
students. Attendees intent in coding activities by exploring a universe of mechanism science, robotics, and programming.
The Team Packard initiative, a partnership between AMND and The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research during Johns
Hopkins University, is a inhabitant module lenient students to lift income and recognition for ALS, also famous as
Lou Gehrig’s disease. Team Packard events foster use training and partnership among students and school
communities. In a second year, a module has 18 purebred schools including colleges opposite a republic as good as
