Technology helps ALS patients safety their voice

Every day, 15 Americans are diagnosed with amyotrophic parallel sclerosis, improved famous as ALS. It affects a nerves and muscles.

Loss of strength is mostly followed by stoppage and eventually detriment of speech. ALS affects dozens of people in Kern County.

There is a high-tech resolution assisting ALS patients keep their voice. It’s called voice banking, regulating a module called Model Talker. Voice banking is a prolonged routine that has patients record some-more than a thousand phrases. It allows people who use a debate generating device to promulgate with a singular personal fake voice that becomes their own.

“Losing my voice is something that is tough to hold mentally, yet meaningful we would be means to use my possess voice to say, ‘I adore you,’ to my family members and my mother is unequivocally critical to me,” pronounced Daryl Thiesen, who was diagnosed with a illness a year ago.

Thiesen’s voice means only as most to his mother as it does to him.

Also in a ALS support organisation is Charlie Wren. Until 3 years ago, he was a musician and a mechanic.

He now uses his computer, called Tobii Dynavox, to talk. It recognizes what letters he is looking at, permitting him to form and speak. But it isn’t his voice, it’s a robotic one. He wishes he did voice banking.

“It was a large mistake not doing so,” he said. “Everyone misses my voice, means your voice is partial of your identity.”

Wren and his wife, Angelina, have been married for 9 years. She pronounced even yet it’s not her father speaking, he still has a right difference to say.

“I adore you,” Charlie Wren interjected.

ALS Association, Golden West Chapter serves Kern County. It has a support organisation during Health South a second Saturday of each month.
